Doing Things Better

Reflecting on progress is always fascinating. What are some things you’ve done, or experienced, throughout your life that are done better today than in the past?

Communication: Instant messaging, video calls, and social media have replaced letters and landline phones, making it easier to stay connected globally.

Agriculture: Precision farming, drones, and genetically modified crops have improved crop yields, efficiency, and sustainability.

Retail: E-commerce, mobile payments, and personalized online shopping experiences have made purchasing goods more convenient and accessible.

For me, the construction industry is a prime example. When I started my career over 43 years ago, we were still heavily reliant on traditional methods and materials. Today, we have prefabricated cold-formed steel and advanced prefabrication techniques that have revolutionized the way we build. The precision, efficiency, and sustainability we achieve now were unimaginable back then. Automation, robotics, and 3D printing have revolutionized production processes, increasing precision, speed, and customization.

Technology has also transformed our daily work processes. Remember drafting blueprints by hand? Now, we have sophisticated CAD software that allows for incredibly detailed and accurate designs, not to mention the collaborative tools that make working with teams across the globe seamless.

Even in our personal lives, the advancements are astounding. From communication to transportation, many aspects of our lives are more efficient, convenient, and innovative.

So, what about you? What are some of the areas in your life where you’ve seen remarkable improvement over the years?
